Student Teaching—Fourth Grade

Philophy of Education and Approach to Teaching

I believe that my job is not just to teach; my job is to initiate and support student success. As a learning facilitator, I apply my knowledge, abilities and talents to help each student reach their full potential in all areas, including academic, social and emotional development.

 

My approach to education incorporates four key concepts.

 

Students are the center of my teaching

· I build a positive rapport with my student in order to ensure a positive classroom environment where students are comfortable to learn in their own way

· My students are listened to and their feelings and views are respected

· I tailor lessons and activities to meet students’ needs, including their ability level, interests and learning styles

 

 All instruction I provide is authentic and effective.

· I incorporate research-based best practices to ensure student success

· In addition, I thoughtfully incorporate creative new ideas into my teaching, always evaluating their usefulness to my students

· I ensure that skills and concepts are presented as applicable to students’ real lives and futures

· I use assessment consistently in order to facilitate student growth

 

My classroom is a positive learning environment

· I ensure my classroom is safe, organized and encourages learning

· My classroom and behavior management plans focus on developing the student as an individual and a citizen

 

 I grow along with my students

· I explore new concepts along with my students and model inquiry as we learn new things together

· I assess my skills to plan and present instruction and make adjustments that will meet my students’ needs

· I continually seek to learn new skills through professional development, online courses and research, and interactions with other educators

·  

I believe that each student I interact with is valuable and should be given every opportunity to succeed. By incorporating these concepts and beliefs into my job, I am able to focus on the center of my work as an educator: the student.
